By Kathy Belge One of the most common questions I am asked (after "Am I a lesbian? That's why I was really excited to learn about Juliette Prais and Pink Lobster Dating.Pink Lobster is a site for femme lesbians in the UK and US to meet one another.
Juliette Prais: After a long term relationship I became single! I’ve also been involved with a whole array of other businesses and jobs ranging from being a professional singer, running literary events, through to creating projects for homeless LGBT youth.I simply had no idea how difficult it would be to find another woman. When I was dating online I was so shocked by my experiences and disappointed by the lack of understanding of what lesbians really need and want, that I just knew something had to change! It became my mission when I realised that there was nothing out there that so many women like me needed and wanted. The biggest issue with being a lipstick lesbian or a femme lesbian is that people in both the straight and gay communities mistrust us!I still think it is ironic how even lesbians question our sexuality and how straight people love it.
It already takes a lot to find someone as a lesbian, but it’s even harder when you feel like you don’t fit into either community.
This question in fact ties in with one of the reasons I created Pink Lobster Dating.
I was fed up with sites just wanting numbers and not actually giving its members a caring and personalised experience.
I remember signing up to some of the most well-known sites only to be redirected to another site for LGBT, which was simply an offshoot in order to get the numbers of members up for their figures.
For me it’s not about ‘how many’ but ‘how many are right for me’.
I used to spend hours trawling through hundreds and hundreds of women and after sending out what felt like thousands of messages, I would get an inappropriate reply or two.
