Updating firefox in ubuntu

And since it is a LTS it may still have too old stable packages in use to work with more current Firefox versions.

I remembered one LTS did not update Firefox and I guess that was 8.04 hardy.

There is a nice way to upgrade a firefox to latest version, which I have learnt recently. Here i assume that you have configured system updater.

i.e You have to look at System updater menu and select the appropriate firefox update.

Precise will have a newer version of Firefox and will allow updating of the distro Firefox install.The other alternative is to install Mozilla Firefox. For comparison and evaluation purposes I also run several versions of Mozilla Firefox.
